Item type:Publication, Sustainable entrepreneurial orientation (SEO) and organizational performance: A gender-moderated perspective in Peru(Institute of Economic Sciences, 2024-11-27)Sustainable Entrepreneurial Orientation (SEO) is an emergent concept and a complex dynamic capability that could explain the behavioral predisposition of individuals and organizations to contribute to sustainable development. This study examined the impact of decision-makers' SEO on the organizational performance of their companies. In addition, the study evaluated the moderating role of gender in the relationship between SEO and performance. The approach of the study was explanatory and non-experimental. It used a PLS-SEM technique on a sample of 121 decision-makers of micro and small enterprises operating in different sectors in Peru, a highly entrepreneurial country in Latin America. After validating the SEO measurement from the individual perspective, the results showed that SEO does affect performance. However, the moderating role of gender on the SEO-performance relationship was not empirically validated. This study contributes to the literature on sustainable entrepreneurship by confirming that the phenomenon of SEO, typically assessed at the organizational level, is also an important antecedent of organizational performance when viewed from the individual perspective. Although the moderating effect of gender was not proven, this study provides insightful directions on the SEO-performance relationship. Thus, by validating the SEO instrument that considers its components from an individual perspective, the literature on this strategic orientation has been expanded. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Pathways to sustainable entrepreneurship: Analysing drivers of sustainable entrepreneurial orientation(Elsevier B.V., 2024-09-01)This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of the literature on sustainable entrepreneurial orientation (SEO) to identify the factors influencing its adoption by entrepreneurs and organisations. Given the documented impact of this capability and its components on performance, this study aims to contribute to existing knowledge regarding antecedents. Design/methodology/approach: The literature review includes 23 papers published in Scopus and Web of Science indexed journals between 2017 and 2023. These studies provide an overview of the evolving understanding of SEO from its conceptualisation in 2017 to the present. Using thematic analysis, this review focuses on the factors that influence entrepreneurs’ and organisations’ adoption of SEO. Findings: The results show that the adoption of SEO is influenced by complex and multi-causal factors. Based on a literature review, this study proposes a comprehensive framework that elucidates the drivers that contribute to sustainable practices through this capability. These drivers are categorised as (a) individual or personal, (b) organisational, or (c) contextual. Furthermore, the findings provide evidence that the emergence of SEO in organisations is not solely due to entrepreneurial aspects or organisational and contextual drivers. The literature identifies specific and interrelated drivers related to all three levels of action. In particular, decision-makers are found to cultivate specific characteristics and traits. Originality/value: This study provides value to both researchers and policymakers in the areas of sustainable development and entrepreneurship by presenting the antecedents of SEO in a systematic and structured manner. In addition, it comprehensively identifies the gaps in previous research and provides avenues for future research. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Entrepreneurial orientation: A bibliometric analysis and comparative literature review between Latin America and the USA(Inderscience Publishers, 2024-10-22)Most studies on entrepreneurial orientation (EO) have focused on developed countries, leaving emerging economies relatively underexplored despite their high entrepreneurial activity. This paper seeks to systematise the literature on EO across Latin America and the USA. A bibliometric analysis was conducted on 75 manuscripts from the Scopus database, complemented by a comparative literature analysis of 36 relevant papers. The results show that 75 articles were published across 53 journals, among which the Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development accounts for five articles and 203 citations. Moreover, most of the manuscripts were published ten years ago or less, with a peak of publications in 2020, mainly from the USA. A thematic map revealed five key clusters of research: competitive advantage, entrepreneurship, internationalisation, sustainability, and management practices, whose content the literature review helped to clarify. From these findings, several research propositions were formulated, offering future directions for EO studies in emerging economies. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Sustainable entrepreneurial intention in an emerging economy: Extending the theory of planned behavior with sustainability-oriented entrepreneurial cognition and skills(Elsevier BV, 2026-09-01)Amidst pressure on emerging economies to reconcile economic development with environmental goals, understanding the drivers of sustainable entrepreneurial intention (SEI) is crucial. This study examines the determinants of SEI among university students, extending the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) by incorporating sustainability-oriented entrepreneurial cognition (SOEC) and entrepreneurial skills (ES), and exploring the mediating role of TPB components. Methodology A cross-sectional survey gathered 173 responses from business students in a Latin American emerging economy. Data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test explanatory direct and mediating effects among attitudes toward sustainable entrepreneurship (ATS), subjective norms (SN), perceived behavioral control (PBC), ES, SOEC, and SEI. Results Findings show that ATS and PBC strongly predict SEI, whereas SN and ES have no significant direct effects. Crucially, SOEC exerts significant indirect effects on SEI primarily through ATS and PBC. The indirect path via SN is non-significant. These results suggest that SOEC strengthens SEI by acting as a foundational catalyst for pro-sustainability attitudes and perceived control. Practical and theoretical implications Theoretically, this study clarifies SOEC's role not as a direct predictor that increases explanatory power, but as a distal antecedent that structures the TPB's cognitive architecture. Furthermore, the insignificance of SN reflects the emerging economy context, where traditional corporate careers are socially favored over perceived high-risk sustainable ventures, making profound personal conviction (ATS) and self-efficacy (PBC) essential. Practically, entrepreneurship education should prioritize cultivating SOEC, attitudes, and perceived control alongside concrete skills to foster sustainability-driven mindsets. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Networking, experimentation, and financing as drivers of accelerated growth in Peruvian startups(Springer Nature, 2025-12-01)This study assesses the impact of networking capability, experimentation capability, and access to financing on the accelerated growth of startups. Design/methodology/approach A quota sample of 119 Peruvian startups was analyzed using binary logistic regression across five models, each comprising different combinations of the three predictor variables. Findings The results indicate that family and friendship networks, academic background, and private capital exceeding USD 15,000 are significant predictors of growth. In contrast, professional networks and public funding programs show no statistically significant effect. Furthermore, experimentation capabilities—particularly those involving scientific knowledge and business model consolidation—are strongly associated with growth. Practical implications Managers should consider that a combination of access to funding, experimentation capability, and networking capability offers a better prediction of accelerated growth than any of these factors individually. In addition, policymakers should note that the amount of funding is crucial for the early-stage growth of startups. Originality/value This study contributes to the understanding of how dynamic capabilities drive the accelerated growth of startups in nascent ecosystems, such as the Peruvian context.2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Entrepreneurial traits and sustainable entrepreneurial orientation in Peru: A PLS-SEM analysis of micro and small-sized enterprises(Elsevier BV, 2025-12-01)The study investigates how individual-level entrepreneurial traits influence the development of Sustainable Entrepreneurial Orientation (SEO) among decision-makers in micro and small-sized enterprises in Peru, highlighting SEO as a dynamic capability critical for advancing sustainability goals in emerging economies. Rooted in a positivist paradigm, the analysis employed the PLS-SEM technique on a sample of 121 decision-makers from micro and small-sized enterprises operating across various sectors in Peru, a highly entrepreneurial country in Latin America. The results indicate that SEO is fostered by a combination of entrepreneurial traits, including conscientiousness, resilience, self-efficacy, and cognitive reappraisal, an emotional regulation mechanism. This study represents an initial effort to assess SEO at the individual level. In terms of managerial implications, the findings suggest that micro and small-sized enterprises, along with their decision-makers and members, should be oriented toward sustainable entrepreneurship to contribute to the 2030 Agenda. To achieve this, it is essential to foster entrepreneurial traits that promote SEO as a capability influencing the predisposition of individuals and organizations toward sustainable practices. By applying a PLS-SEM model, the study identifies which entrepreneurial traits exert a stronger influence on SEO at the individual level in Peruvian micro and small-sized enterprises. By linking psychological traits to sustainability capabilities, the study offers new insights into fostering sustainable entrepreneurship in emerging economies. The findings also underscore the strategic role of universities and policy instruments in developing these traits to support progress toward the 2030 Agenda.2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Determinants of Generative AI Adoption Through the UTAUT Model: Insights From Postgraduate Business Students(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2025-01-01)In a highly competitive context where generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools are gaining increasing relevance in educational learning environments, it is essential to understand the motivations and factors driving graduate students to adopt these technologies. This study systematically identifies the factors influencing graduate students' intentions to use GAI tools. Students and alumni from a graduate business school in Peru were surveyed to assess their intentions regarding GAI technology usage. The study builds on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) by incorporating GAI literacy as a variable. In late 2024, 251 participants from diverse backgrounds completed a questionnaire, which was then analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) through SmartPLS 4.1.0.2. This analysis aimed to uncover key factors influencing GAI adoption in higher education. The findings reveal that performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), and perceived risk (PR) significantly influence the intention to use GAI, whereas facilitating conditions (FC) and social influence (SI) do not. Furthermore, prior experience with GAI moderates the relationships between FC, SI, and the intention to use GAI. These insights into the factors shaping GAI adoption intentions are vital for informing strategies to ethically leverage artificial intelligence (AI) in business and academia. By understanding user motivations, organizations can develop targeted policies and training programs to ensure responsible AI integration and maximize its potential benefits.5 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Boosting Social Entrepreneurship in High School Students: An Approach from the Theory of Planned Behaviour in an Emerging Country Context(Taylor & Francis, 2025-01-01)Sandro Sánchez:This study analyzes how components of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), opportunity recognition competence (ORC), and perceived values on sustainability (PVS) relate to social entrepreneurial intention (SEI) among 522 Peruvian high school students in a national entrepreneurship program. Using PLS-SEM, it found that attitudes towards entrepreneurship (ATE), perceived behavioral control (PBC), and PVS positively influence SEI. ATE also partially mediates the link between social entrepreneurial self-efficacy (SESE) and SEI. The findings inform educational strategies to foster social entrepreneurship in emerging countries like Peru, where such initiatives remain limited despite high entrepreneurial potential.5
