Organisational citizenship behaviour of MBA students: the role of mindfulness and resilience
    (Elsevier, 2021-11-01)
This research examines the relation between mindfulness and Organisational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) of future business leaders, viz., MBA students through the lens of resilience. We also evaluate the impact of mindfulness on their academic performance in their business schools which is an indicator of future business success. The study found that mindfulness is a significant predictor of OCB as also of grades achieved by the students in the MBA programme. Further, we find evidence for the partial mediation model. We find that one third of the effect comes from higher resilience while the remaining two thirds comes directly from mindfulness. In case of the grades obtained by the MBA students, 37.5 per cent of increase comes through resilience whereas the rest comes from mindfulness directly. We find that mindfulness fulfils this objective of the students in addition to broader social objective of enhancing their OCB.

Effectiveness of mindfulness in business education: evidence from a controlled experiment
    (Elsevier, 2021-07-01)
Mindfulness has evolved into a four billion dollar industry and has inevitably attracted attention of businesses and business schools. Scholars in the fields of business tend to agree that psychological and pedagogic assertions in the field of mindfulness can be grounded within the context of cutting-edge theories and findings within Organisation Science and Education Science. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the impact of mindfulness on learning of business analysis and decision making which is a staple in MBA programmes of business schools across the world. Business schools use case study method for teaching business analysis and decision making which engages the students in real-world experiences in a controlled manner and according to Experiential Learning theory increases self-efficacy. In a randomised controlled experiment, 293 MBA students of four business schools participated. The intervention group received a standardised mindfulness training of 20 weeks as a consequence of which their mindfulness score on Mindful Attention Awareness Scale increased significantly while the stress level declined. The study found that increase in mindfulness is a highly significant predictor of increase in the marks obtained by the students in business case study tests and that stress mediates between mindfulness and the marks obtained.

Impact of mindfulness on irrigation water consumption
    (Frontiers Media S.A., 2022-12-14)
As two irreversible trends—population growth and climate change advance further, demand for water conservation will increase. Since irrigation is the major source of use (and waste) of freshwater, the professionals in this field will be under pressure to find innovative ways to increase physical irrigation efficiency. Irrigation water management promotes the delivery of water in a quantity that meets the needs of the crop while avoiding runoff and prolonged soil saturation. Water and energy can be conserved by improving application precision and decreasing unused applications. The adoption of water conservation technologies do not always increase the physical irrigation efficiency. Paradoxically, in many cases it may also increase water withdrawal. However, there are non-economic reasons because of which farmers invest their time and effort to reduce wastage of water. Higher irrigation efficiency is likely to depend on behavioral characteristics of the farmer. This research looks at whether mindfulness is one of the characteristics that influences water conservation. It also looks at the mechanism of this effect and the mediating role of environmental concern. It is found that mindfulness has a direct effect as also an indirect effect (through environmental concern) on increase in physical irrigation efficiency. The estimated effect of mindfulness through environmental concern is about two-thirds of the total effect, the remaining one-third of the effect coming directly from mindfulness.

Increasing production efficiency of irrigation systems through stakeholder participation
    (IWA Publishing, 2022-06-01)
Irrigation projects have elicited ambiguous views, if not outright animosity, during the past four decades. Aside from environmental and relocation concerns, low productivity is a source of criticism. Irrigation management systems in developing countries seem to have historically underperformed due to government control. Weak institutional arrangements have hindered effective and timely water distribution. There is widespread dissatisfaction with technocratic top-down programmes imposed with little community support. A rising recognition that more advanced engineering and information technologies are not the primary drivers of increased irrigation potential utilisation has resulted in an emphasis on farmer-led irrigation. Many developing countries have introduced reform instruments since the 1980s, with the most notable paradigm being a move from government control to participative management by stakeholders. This study looks into the situation in Cambodia where participation of farmers in managing irrigation schemes is being sought through the formation of Farmers Water Users Committees. The study quantifies the improvement in project performance with farmers’ participation through Farmers Water Users Committees and finds it significant. Furthermore, using difference-in-difference methodology, this research finds that the improvement is not a blip and is sustained over the medium term.

Reskilling Business Executives in Transition Economies: Can Yoga Help?
    (Inderscience Publishers, 2023-01-01)
The required skill set of the business executives in transition economies is changing as the monopolistic public sector businesses are converting themselves to private enterprises with global exposure. Through the lens of mindfulness, this study investigates whether the ancient practice of yoga can support enhancement of helping behaviour and cultural intelligence of business executives in a transitional economy. PROCESS macro has been employed to study the mediation model. The study found that yogic practices significantly increase participants’ helping behaviour and also their cultural intelligence. The results support the partial mediation model with approximately two thirds of the effect on helping behaviour coming from higher mindfulness and the remaining one third coming directly from the practice of yoga. In the case of cultural intelligence, 88% of the increase comes through mindfulness while the remaining 12% can be accounted for directly from yogic practices. This is the first time the gains of benefits of yoga have been quantified in a desegregated manner. Businesses in emerging markets could view yoga not as a woke activity or a trivial pursuit, but as a support for bringing about useful attitudinal changes among their executives.

Prosocial Behavior of MBA Students: The Role of Yoga and Mindfulness
    (Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2023-01-01)
This study explores the relation between yoga and prosocial behavior (PSB) of business students and evaluates the impact of yoga on their academic performance in an MBA program. The mediating role of mindfulness is also examined. The study covers a cohort of 255 MBA students. Individual MBA student’s yoga practice, mindfulness, PSB, and performance in management case studies was measured before and after a 20-week yoga programme. The study found that yogic practices significantly increase PSB and academic performance. To assess the mediating role of mindfulness, PROCESS macro was used for regression analysis. It was found that mindfulness acts as a mediator between yoga and PSB. As a result of partial mediation, half the effect on PSB comes from higher mindfulness while the remaining half comes directly from the practice of yoga. Mindfulness also acts as a mediator between yoga and academic performance. In case of the grades obtained by the MBA students, 58% of increase comes through mindfulness whereas the remaining 42% comes from yogic practices directly. Increasing PSB among business school students would be a logical step toward promoting future management practices that are more comprehensive, socially responsible, value-based, and ethically-oriented. This study demonstrates how yoga can benefit MBA students who practise it as well as meet social demands.

Integrating sustainability and ESG criteria into international business curricula: impact on student learning outcomes
    (Emerald Publishing Limited, 2026-06-09)
This study aims to examine how integration depth – the extent to which sustainability content challenges fundamental business paradigms – affects student competency development in international business education across diverse cultural contexts. Design/methodology/approach A mixed-methods study across 12 business schools in four countries involving 427 students. The research used pre-post competency assessments, curriculum analysis, multi-level modelling and qualitative investigation through focus groups and faculty interviews. Findings Integration depth significantly enhances cross-contextual sustainability competence development. However, cultural tightness-looseness moderates this relationship: paradigm-challenging approaches prove more effective in culturally loose contexts but encounter resistance in culturally tight contexts that prioritise conformity. Originality/value This is a large-scale, cross-cultural study of sustainability integration effectiveness in international business education, demonstrating cultural contingencies in transformative learning and providing evidence-based guidance for culturally responsive curriculum design.

Household water source choices in peri-urban areas: a discrete choice analysis of use-differentiated strategies
    (Taylor & Francis, 2026-01-01)
Unreliable piped water systems in peri-urban areas force households to employ complex multi-source water management strategies, yet little is understood about these interconnected choices. This study examines household water supply decisions in peri-urban Central India using discrete choice modelling with 250 households. Binary and multinomial logit models analyse pipe network connections and source selection for drinking versus bathing. Results show higher income, education and storage capacity increase piped water use for bathing, while female literacy and quality perceptions favour piped/hand pump water for drinking. The study recommends differentiated service levels based on willingness to pay, emphasizing demand-side management approaches.
