Item type:Publication, Examining the mediating effect of the rural economic dynamization between the socio-environmental heritage and sustainability of protected areas(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-08-01)This study examines the mediating effect of rural economic dynamization between socio-environmental heritage and the sustainability of protected areas in the buffer zone of the Serranía de las Quinchas Regional Natural Park, located in the municipality of Otanche, Boyacá Department, Colombia. The study population includes families that are part of the productive units in this area. The methodological approach of this study is based on partial least squares structural equation modeling. The working unit was established in the regional protected areas of Colombia, specifically in the Serranía de las Quinchas Regional Natural Park. A sample of 172 participants was selected using a non-probabilistic intentional sampling method, covering academics, company representatives, social leaders, local authorities, and representatives of non-governmental organizations. The study variables were measured using a scale with satisfactory psychometric properties, which included 12 items for socio-environmental heritage, 17 items for rural economic dynamization, and 11 items for the sustainability of protected areas. These were structured into subcategories based on the ecosystem services approach (factors that demonstrate social and economic dynamics). Responses were collected using a five-point Likert scale. The sample was analyzed using SmartPLS 3.3.3 software, applying a reflective–reflective hierarchical component model to evaluate the first- and second-order relationships among the variables. The results demonstrate the importance of socio-environmental heritage for local communities as a strategic component that facilitates the rural economic dynamization of protected areas based on sustainability. This research contributes to understanding the relationship between socio-environmental heritage and the sustainability of protected areas, mediated by rural economic dynamization, highlighting the relevance of in situ conservation strategies and prospective planning of these territories to implement sustainability dynamics. It is concluded that rural economic dynamization acts as a significant mediator in the relationship between socio-environmental heritage and the sustainability of protected areas, emphasizing the need to integrate these dynamics into the management of natural resources and the promotion of sustainable development in rural communities. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Analysis of systemic risk on the financial performance during the COVID-19 pandemic: The case of the Colombian banking industry(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-03-01)This study seeks to analyze the financial performance of the Colombian banking industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. The frame of reference is based on the concept of systemic risk; concerning this, the pandemic is conceived as an external shock, which impacted the dynamics of the banking industry. To conduct this study, a descriptive-correlational scope is proposed, from which an analysis of different accounting items related to the banking business is made and validated by expert judgment. The analysis horizon covers six years, but the focus is placed on March 2020, when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). For this purpose, a longitudinal design is proposed, which analyzes the time series describing the behavior of some relevant items in the management of the banking business, such as operating revenue, provisions, interest on deposits and drawings, valuation of trading derivatives, and technology-related expenses. In addition, these items’ correlation with banking establishments’ performance is analyzed. The results of the study show that during the pandemic period, there was a significant increase in the level of volatility in the foreign exchange market, which impacted the operating revenue of banking establishments. It is concluded that, although exchange rate volatility affected the results of the banking industry, the main factor related to the financial performance of Colombian banks is their business itself, i.e., revenue from the loan portfolio and the quality of the loan portfolio. Therefore, systemic risk must be addressed regarding its implications on banks’ main profit drivers, such as portfolio revenue, cost of deposits, and provisions. Based on the above, it is recommended that Colombian banking establishments make greater efforts to diversify their sources of income to reduce their exposure to systemic risk situations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Second, technical skills and their strategic prevalence were identified for the design of each horizon. As a result, the adoption of AI in insurance companies allows them to transform their personal and data-intensive processes into engines of efficiency and knowledge, redefining the way companies in the sector offer their services. This study identifies the immediate benefits of AI in insurance companies. It provides a strategic framework for future innovation, emphasizing the importance of developing AI competencies to ensure long-term sustainability. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Trends in the literature about the adoption of digital banking in emerging economies: A bibliometric analysis(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2024-12-01)This study examines the trends in the literature about adopting digital banking in emerging economies. It is based on the concepts of digital transformation and technological adoption, which significantly impact the development of the banking industry. A quantitative approach was used through a bibliometric analysis using data from Scopus to achieve the objective. The search equation allowed 118 publications to be extracted and analyzed. The results show that digital banking in emerging countries is a growing field of research that has driven the of new information technologies. The perceived usefulness of digital banking is a key factor in promoting its adoption in the market. Attributes such as security and trust were identified as affecting the level of user satisfaction. Most studies are based on technological adoption, where perceived risk, usefulness, and ease of use are key to understanding the intention to use these technologies. Some countries’ concerns about financial inclusion, cyber security, and trust in financial technology are evident. While digital banking has the potential to increase the coverage of financial services, there are concerns about cybersecurity risks and user data protection. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Intellectual capital measurement in higher education institutions context from the professors’ perspective(Hong Kong Bao Long Accounting And Secretarial Limited, 2024-01-01)Intellectual capital has aroused growing interest in higher education; however, one area for improvement in its study is how to measure it adequately. Therefore, it is necessary to have instruments based on current models of intellectual capital. This study aims to design and validate an intellectual capital measurement scale in accredited higher education institutions (HEIs) from the perspective of professors. The study was instrumental because a measurement scale was developed. The sample consisted of 341 professors from six accredited HEIs on the Colombian Caribbean Coast. The statistical analysis consisted of three stages: item analysis, collection of validity evidence based on the internal structure and the relationship with other variables, and reliability analysis using the internal consistency method. The scale's internal structure corroborated intellectual capital composition based on human, structural, and relational components. Regarding convergent evidence, all variables possess this source of validity evidence. Reliability levels were also good. Previously, an instrument has yet to be developed those measures intellectual capital in HEIs from the perspective of professors. This study provides a scale that focuses on the characteristics of this stakeholder and is based on an innovative model of intellectual capital composed of human, structural, and relational capital. The theoretical contribution of the study lies in developing a test based on two current models of intellectual capital: the Intellectus model and the Balanced Scorecard model. It also contributes to practice by providing a tool for measuring intellectual capital that allows its adequate management, improvement, and decision-making within higher education. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Sentiment Analysis on Twitter-Based Teleworking in a Post-Pandemic COVID-19 Context(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2023-11-01)The implementation of the telework model has become popular globally due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this new model of work organization generates conflicting opinions regarding the positive and negative effects that its implementation can bring to organizations. In this study, sentiment analysis of Twitter-based teleworking in a post-pandemic COVID-19 context was conducted. A set of Twitter conversations is examined by applying text mining and opinion analysis techniques. The results show the prevalence of positive sentiments regarding telework. In addition, opinions are generally associated with confidence, anticipation, and joy. According to the results, it is recommended to consider telework as an opportunity to improve worker well-being. However, it is important to consider some factors, such as the sector to which the company belongs, the characteristics of the job, and the working conditions.
