- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Women of vigorous spirit: Gender stereotypes and roles in the conquest of America in the 16th century(Universidad Pedagogica y Tecnologica de Colombia, 2024-01-01)This text investigates how certain exceptional actions carried out by women in the military sphere during the conquest of America in the 16th century were documented, interpreted, and narrated by witnesses and chroniclers. These accounts were influenced by gender archetypes and stereotypes shaped and influenced by the prevailing social, religious, moral, and cultural conventions of that period. The article analyzes some paradigmatic cases from the early Peruvian viceroyalty. This analysis is conducted from a gender perspective that enables the examination of aspects such as female models transferred to the New World and the consideration of the actions of some women in frontier territories, where various factors allowed for, and even demanded, roles far removed from the norms of Early Modern society. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Unpacking argumentation: Identity and epistemic tensions in higher education(Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, 2024-01-01)This study unpacks three central literacy practices in argumentative writing within Higher Education: the formulation of a stance, the search for reliable bibliographic sources, and the development of argumentative frameworks. Theoretically, it is situated within academic literacies and recent studies in Latin America that adopt a sociocultural, critical, and social justice approach, understanding writing as a social practice. Methodologically, this ethnographic research follows a comparative trajectory of eight students in a university course on argumentative writing, based on cyclical conversations about their progress, a critical analysis of these conversations, and a review of institutional documents. The results conclude that students strive to produce writing that aligns with an objectivist vision of knowledge that is reproduced and promoted in higher education. This institutional proposal relegates their personal voices to the background and encourages “administrative-academic” identities focused on the collection and management of “reliable sources” and the development of argumentative frameworks that operationalize epistemic production in these literacy spaces. Thus, the research contributes to the questioning of literacies that from social justice, which have become established as hegemonic practices in higher education. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, ¿How does America’s radical right define the political context in which it acts?(Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. Facultad de Letras y Ciencias Humanas, 2024-01-01)There are many academic publications on what Cass Mudde (2017) defined as the “populist radical right”. Based on those, but unlike them, this article tries to understand the radical right in the Western Hemisphere in the same way that it understands itself and the political context in which it acts. Based on their own texts, we conclude that such an understanding is based on four main arguments. First, that, after the Cold War, Marxism based on class conflicts was replaced by what they call “cultural Marxism”, which emphasizes instead conflicts among groups defined by their identity. Second, cultural Marxism has achieved political victories that were unthinkable under classical Marxism. Third, cultural Marxism is an “ideology” which, under their understanding of that term, constitutes a worldview that, due to its lack of basis on reality, pretends to prevail through political means. Finally, all the groups that they define as part of cultural Marxism are unified under that ideology, ready to contend against the radical right in what they call a “cultural battle”. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
This research examines the identity of Sporting Cristal fans in Lima, Peru, focusing on personal identity, relational identity within the fan group (barra), and identity expression in other life spaces. For this purpose, qualitative methods were used, including in-depth interviews with six male and female fans, this study explores fans’ experiences, emotions, and sense of belonging related to the club. The findings reveal that fans’ personal identity with Sporting Cristal is rooted in family traditions, emotional connections, and shared values with the club. Their commitment is expressed through attending matches, purchasing club merchandise, and engaging in protests to voice their concerns. Within the fan group, fans develop close bonds, providing emotional and financial support to fellow supporters. However, female fans face challenges related to gender stereotypes within the male-dominated fan culture and navigate them by adopting masculine behaviors and relying on male allies within the barra. In other life spaces, fans balance their commitment to the club with family and work responsibilities, prioritizing in some cases their involvement in fan activities accordingly. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, La sorpresa en la experiencia estética de la música popular(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2024-12-10)Popular music has used new technologies and the globalizing nature of our time to expand into different species of daily life. We live overstimulated by different rhythms, melodies and sounds. In this diverse context, how do we explain that we like something new? In what follows, we propose to explain the genesis of taste, starting from the temporal structure of surprise proposed by Natalie Depraz: anticipation-impression-resonance. The idea is to understand taste as a possibility of surprise; as a resonance of the first sound experience. In this way, a different perspective on the aesthetics of taste can be offered: outside or differentiating itself from established aesthetic models. Furthermore, it will be possible to understand how surprise participates in the origin of the different musical communities that are responsible for sustaining mass musical productions. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Legend of Naymlap in the Memory and Identity of the People of Lambayeque, North Coast of Peru(Universidad de Tarapaca, 2023-01-01)We analyse the contents of the two known stories about Naymlap and his descendants: the one written by Miguel Cabello de Valboa (1581) and the one written by Modesto Rubiños y Andrade (1782), identifying their structure, main mythemes and archetypes, as a means to evaluate the role of both tales in the construction of historic memory and identity by Lambayeque people during colonial times. We conclude that in Cabello de Valboa’s version, there is an emphasis on the dynastic saga, claimed by the XVI century cacicazgos, as well as an emphasis on archetypical elements of good and bad statecraft. It is also a tale that brought a sense to present existence, remembering a glorious past and explaining its fall. In contrast, Rubiños y Andrade’s version appears in a context where cacicazgos need to legitimate their position by emphasizing their linkages with the territory and regional topography, enhancing through the tale by establishing a relationship between elements of the story with well-known landscape places. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Experience of Sexuality as a Secret Chord in the Construction of Trans Women's Subjectivities in the Global South: A Case Study of a Group of Trans Women in Lima, Peru(Springer, 2025-02-01)This research explores how the experience of sexuality intersects with the desire for recognition and power dynamics in the lives of trans women from childhood onward. Social science literature on trans women in the Global South has predominantly focused on health issues related to HIV, often neglecting other crucial factors that contribute to a comprehensive understanding of this group. Additionally, in psychology, there is a lack of studies addressing the role of sexuality in children with diverse sexual orientations and how sex/gender dimensions influence the development of their identities. Methodologically, this study uses a qualitative approach, involving 17 semi-structured interviews with trans women aged 23–47 in Lima, Peru. The research highlights that sexuality emerges at an early age and contrasts with the desire for recognition as feminine. This study will demonstrate how sexuality, though often hidden, plays a critical role in shaping the identities and subjectivities of trans women in the Global South.2
