- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The employer as a guarantor of occupational safety in the Peruvian Criminal Code. Globalization, criminal risk and COVID-19(2021-01-01)The present COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted that people, in the globalized society, have to face up to risks. This public health crisis has also revealed what type of risks workers have to face up to. This paper addresses economic and political transformations of globalization, starting from the global supply chain and the emergence of private authorities. From this point, this paper analyzes the protection of occupational safety in the Peruvian Criminal Code, considering a legal good derived from the concept of decent work that serves as a barrier to commercial exploitation in the globalized market. It emphasizes the employer as liable for avoiding risks produced from labor relations and how this liability works in the context of the COVID- 19. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
- Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
AbstractThe reaction of the British and French Governments against the launch of a European Football Super League was evidence that the nationalist discourse, which has gained traction in recent years, has also spread to the sports field. This article aims to analyze the influence of nationalism on the stance of rejection expressed by the French and English Governments to the launch of a European Super League. The hypothesis that is being tested is that the administrations of Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron recognized the political capital provided by presenting a nationalist position in a context in which globalization is presenting setbacks. To comply with this, an exploratory approach was applied from a qualitative content analysis that allowed to recognize the presence of nationalist discourse in the declarations of the governments involved and a tool of Comparative Policy of the Design of Different Systems that allowed to contrast the cases studied. After the analysis, it was observed that both governments appealed to a nationalist discourse in which the defense of local football was supported by an identity, national values and territorial borders. While the British did it from a local perspective, the French from a continental one. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Uneven Effects, an Evolutionary Model of Poverty Traps After Trade Liberalization(Routledge, 2025-01-01)This paper theoretically examines trade liberalization’s effects on workers’ human capital for a high-wage economy. Using an evolutionary game theory approach (EGT), we examine whether liberalization affects workers’ education, perhaps making them fall into a poverty trap. We find that, on average, workers increase their investment in human capital. We extend the investigation to include that, due to ex-ante historical and institutional circumstances, trade liberalization exerts heterogeneous effects on different types of workers and that the circumstances enabling them (or not) to educate differ. We find that liberalization makes some workers increase their human capital while other workers do not, leaving the latter more likely to fall into a poverty trap. By extending this investigation to the issues of trade liberalization and heterogeneous workers, we contribute to the EGT literature on poverty traps. Furthermore, unlike existing theoretical literature, which has ultimately argued that people’s different natural abilities are the reason behind their heterogeneous education responses, our analysis brings to the forefront the role of ex-ante historical and institutional factors. The paper also offers a novel theoretical foundation for empirical findings related to globalization’s effects on Americans’ education.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Transformation of International Trade and Marketing: A Review of the Impact of Artificial Intelligence and Automation(World Scientific, 2026-02-01)This paper examines the current and future trends in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation in marketing and international trade. The main objective is understanding how these technologies transform these fields, identifying the predominant discussions, methodologies employed, and reported results since 2010. To this end, a rigorous and systematic scoping review was conducted using the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. A total of 35 studies published between 2010 and 2023 were selected following a multi-phase screening process based on thematic alignment, methodological rigor, and publication quality. Only peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings published in English were considered. Studies included had to explicitly address AI and automation in marketing or international trade, while descriptive reports or articles lacking analytical depth were excluded. The findings show a trend towards qualitative approaches in studies, emphasising theoretical and conceptual understanding over generating new data. Key themes identified include efficiency in cross-border e-commerce, user knowledge, adaptation to the era of big data and its effects on logistics, and regulatory challenges in the face of AI. These findings underscore the growing importance of AI and automation in marketing and international trade, highlighting opportunities and challenges for businesses and governments in a globalised environment.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Honoring George Ritzer: McDonalidizing the unMcDonaldizable?(SAGE Publishing, 2025-12-01)George Ritzer has heralded many of the most field-defining works in the discipline of sociology today. I have known, and worked with, George for nearly all of my adult life. During that time, he has been my professor, my advisor, my co-author, and my friend. Throughout all of my work, and teaching, and personal life, George has always been present. This essay will attempt to honor George Ritzer, both as a global scholar and as a personal mentor, through the lens of some of the fields—metatheory, McDonaldization, globalization, consumption, prosumption—where he has made some of his own most influential contributions.2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, George Ritzer: The man, the sociologist, the legend(SAGE Publishing, 2025-12-01)This Festschrift honors the enduring legacy of George Ritzer, one of sociology's most influential and recognizable figures. Ritzer's scholarship has helped shape core areas of the discipline—ranging from consumption and social theory to globalization and beyond—while also generating new conceptual terrains such as McDonaldization, prosumption, and the study of “nothing” and “something.” The Festschrift opens with a biographical essay authored by Ritzer himself, highlighting his unconventional path to becoming one of the leading figures in sociology. Beyond his published work, Ritzer has shaped the field through founding key academic outlets, editing influential reference works, mentoring numerous scholars, and inspiring broad audiences by translating complex ideas from the ivory tower into concepts that can be more easily understood.2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Beyond WEIRD societies: Global social identifications across 45 countries and their socio-cultural and economic predictors(Wiley, 2026-06-01)In an increasingly globalized world challenged by multiple social problems, global social identifications (GSIs, e.g., with all humanity) are concepts of growing interest. Although such identifications can be affected by the cultural contexts in which they are manifested, research on them remains largely confined to Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic (WEIRD) societies. Using data collected in 45 countries ( N = 9807, preregistered), we compared the strength of three types of GSIs between countries and cultural clusters, and explored the possible role of five cultural dimensions. The results revealed relatively small cross‐national differences in GSIs overall, but African and South‐East Asian cultural clusters reported significantly stronger identifications than those from other regions, with India, South Africa, and Ghana scoring the highest. Contrary to our hypotheses, GSIs were positively associated with in‐group collectivism, survival values, and traditional values, while institutional collectivism was unrelated. As expected, humane orientation was positively related to most GSIs. Additional exploratory analyses showed higher GSIs in countries with a lower quality of life (broadly understood). GSIs were also more pronounced in less globalized, younger societies, with a higher proportion of men, fewer immigrants, and stronger diversity. Our study highlights the need to broaden research on GSIs beyond WEIRD contexts.
