Item type:Publication, Telipogon leisberthvelezii (Orchidaceae: Oncidiinae), a new orchid species from the Cordillera del Cóndor in Ecuador(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2024-03-01)Telipogon leisberthvelezii Iturralde, M.M.Jiménez & H.Garzón, a new species of orchid, discovered in the Cordillera del Cóndor in southern Ecuador, is described and illustrated and its morphological similarities to other species are discussed. The new species is morphologically most similar to T. jostii (Dodson) N.H.Williams & Dressler but differs in the ellipsoid-obovoid petals with a bilobed base, the lip having a deltoid midlobe and dolabriform lateral lobes and a lower density of setae on the column. It is currently known from a single locality only, occurring as an epiphyte in lower montane forest. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Telipogon nigropurpureus (Orchidaceae: Oncidiinae): New insights on its morphology and distribution in Colombia and Ecuador(Magnolia Press, 2024-01-01)Over the past 20 years, Telipogon nigropurpureus had been known from only one specimen from the type locality near Arcabuco, Boyacá, in central Colombia. During botanical explorations in Colombia and Ecuador we have encountered more populations which are reported here. The new records found in Ecuador extend the known geographic range of T. nigropurpureus by 950 km south from the type locality. We provide an updated description, illustration, and photographs of the species, together with information on its ecology and distribution. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Telipogon pillaropatatensis (Oncidiinae): A New Species from the East-Central Andes of Ecuador(Jardin Botanico Lankester, 2023-01-01)A new species, Telipogon pillaropatatensis, is described from the highlands of east-central Ecuador. It is morphologically similar to T. octavioi but differs by having a corolla with longitudinal thick vein lines without reticulations and a column with three dense bundles of equally sized setae. Also, our phylogenetic analyses suggest that they are not closely related. Interestingly, among the analyzed taxa, T. pillaropatatensis appears to have a closer phylogenetic relationship with the highly distinct T. pulcher and T. hausmannianus than with the morphologically similar T. octavioi. The new species has been found in a relatively small area, covering just a few square kilometers in east-central Ecuador. Additionally, we documented remarkable variation in the coloration and size of the corolla. Information regarding the species’ habitat, ecology, phylogenetic relationships, and conservation status is also provided.
