Item type:Publication, Linguistic ideologies of authenticity and commoditization: the case of the «rescue» of the Muchik language in northern Peru(Academia Peruana de la Lengua, 2022-07-01)In this paper, the case of the «rescue» of the extinct Muchik language in the Peruvian region of Lambayeque is discursively analyzed. My proposal is that two linguistic ideologies have been configured in the attempt to recover the language. The first is the ideology of authenticity, according to which this language is represented as the legitimate language of the current descendants of the legendary Mochicas and that it is necessary to bring it back from the past to recover the essence of the Muchik people. The second is the ideology of commoditization, which instrumentalizes this language as an ethno-commodity by conceiving it as an attractive cultural asset for tourist consumption. This research is theoretically framed within sociocultural linguistics and social constructionism. It has followed a qualitative methodology, with an interpretative approach, and has used discourse analysis as the main tool for data analysis. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Social Representations Regarding the Experience of Creating Academic Posters: The Case of Electronic Engineering Students in a Writing Course(Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, 2023-01-01)This research aims to understand the social representations (SR) about the creation and sharing a poster by a group of Electronic Engineering students in the final stage of their careers. The methodology followed a qualitative, descriptive-interpretative, and cross-sectional approach. The principles of grounded theory (GT) were chosen as the analysis technique for the study. The results show a central representation of the production and socialization of the poster as a series of complex and strenuous tasks, whose elaboration requires a series of linguistic-cognitive, social, and multimodal skills for which the students were not adequately prepared. In addition, they construct the elaboration and socialization of a poster as an experience that produces epistemic, emotional, and critical-reflexive effects. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Academic Writing of Graduate Students of International Relations in Perú: Social Representations and Literacy Practices(Universidad Catolica Silva Henriquez, 2023-01-01)This article analyzes and interprets the representations and practices of university academic writing in a postgraduate program at a Peruvian public institution. Methodologically, this is mixed research. Fifteen students of a master’s program in International Relations were interviewed and a questionnaire was applied. The results show that the academic is represented mainly associated with cognitive skills and normativist patterns. Among the practices, it is found that they follow routines, outlines and reading strategies to guide their writing. The article concludes that students reproduce and value the conventions and traditions of the standard variety for the professional image they project, without taking advantage of the potential of critical literacy.
