Moda, reificación y utopía: zapatillas de lujo y la estética worn out
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2023-02-17)
This article analyses some examples of what is usually known as "designer" sneakers ins cribed in the so called worn out aesthetic trend. lt describes practices and discourses of the fashion industry, and the luxury and sumptuousness with which it is usually associa ted. lt identifies the cultural framework and the fashion market as references of identities and ideals of the present time. Based on the critical and cultural theory of authors such as Fredric Jameson and Slavoj ZiZek, it reviews some ideas centered on conceptions of the past, the construction of identity and the creation of social ties. From this perspective, it is questioned whether the meaning of the aesthetic is depoliticized or if it is rather what is called an ideological production.

La materialización de lo simbólico: zonas de amortiguamiento
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2025-08-08)
The artistic project “Buffer Zones” (2023) created by Erika Vásquez and Norka Uribe, aims to explore the relationships between the body, space and time in the current context of our city in order to, at the same time, propose a reflection on the official narratives of Peru of the last fifty years and their constitutive effects on the formation of the identities of the inhabitants of our country. The project is established as a questioning of these hegemonic narratives and, rather, proposes questions and reflections from unofficial spaces of the city’s memory, taking into account its material aspect and also from what seems ungraspable. The official/unofficial duality is addressed from its borders and liminal states in a proposal that builds from the extramural walls of our national history, materializing through various artistic forms, including sculpture, sound sculpture, ephemeral intervention in situ and video. This set of works, as we will see, invites us to question hegemonic narratives, proposing a rereading of the past and an invitation to critically reimagine the national present.

El abordaje de la obra poética de Blanca Varela en la exposición Aniquilar la luz o hacerla (Arequipa, 2022-2023)
(Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2025-12-04)
This review proposes a reading of Blanca Varela's poetics in counterpoint with the artistic exhibition based on her work, held in Arequipa between 2022 and 2023 and sponsored by the BBVA Foundation. It seeks to establish connections between Varela's poems and contemporary visual artistic work, and to specifically explain how his work is fundamental in the visual work of 18 Peruvian artists, who used his poetic work to carry out their personal artistic inquiries.
